Vascular refers to the circulatory system, or system of blood vessels that move blood through the human body. Vascular surgeons are highly trained physicians who specialize in the circulatory system, and can diagnose and repair problems blood vessel problems throughout the human body.
LRGHealthcare is fortunate to have a vascular surgery service that is unique in a community hospital. We currently have three board-certified vascular surgeons performing exclusively vascular procedures—meaning that those surgeons are highly skilled and practiced in the procedures they perform. It is a service that would typically be found only in a major academic center. The program is so successful, and draws so many patients from around the state and the region, that we are currently recruiting a fourth vascular surgeon to join the practice.
LRGHealthcare also has a state-of-the-art vascular lab located in the Medical Office Building at Lakes Region General Hospital. The lab offers a full range of non-invasive diagnostic imaging procedures to evaluate the veins and arteries. Tests include carotid duplex imaging, bypass grafts, and ultrasound evaluation to rule out deep vein thrombosis. The lab has 24-hour emergency coverage, and portable equipment to perform testing at the bedside for inpatients at LRGH.
