Pediatric Sleep Services
According to the American Academy of Otolaryngology, the premier symptom of sleep disordered breathing is snoring that is loud, present every night regardless of sleep position, and is ultimately interrupted by complete obstruction of breathing with gasping and snorting noises. Approximately ten percent of children are reported to snore.
If your child is snoring, mouth breathing while sleeping or is a restless sleeper, they may have pediatric sleep apnea. This can lead to bed-wetting, mood swings, inattentiveness and hyperactivity.
However, other conditions may cause pediatric sleeping disorders such as, allergies, enlarged adenoids and/ or tonsils. If you suspect your child has a sleep disorder, call their pediatrician. He or she may refer you to the Sleep Center and possible sleep study, which involves an overnight stay* in the center for observation by a sleep technologist.
