FY’ 2013 Community Benefit Report and Narrative

Defining community benefit:

Community benefit is comprised of programs and services which meet the essential healthcare needs of the community.   LRGHealthcare’s community benefit includes; subsidized health care services, community health initiatives, chronic disease management, charity care and more.

Understanding the areas we serve:

Close to 95,000 people reside in LRGHealthcare’s service area. An above average number of individuals are uninsured or have Medicaid insurance.  The cities of Laconia and Franklin are federally-designated as Medically Underserved Communities, and Belknap County is designated as Physician Scarcity Area for Primary Care.

By 2030, the population over the age of 65 will grow to 36%, earning Belknap County the largest percentage of seniors than any county in the State of NH.

How needs are identified:

In 2013, LRGHealthcare participated in the Lakes Region Health Data Collaborative, and in 2012, we partnered with the Caring Community Network of the Twin Rivers (CCNTR) in a community needs assessment. We also regularly engage with the community to assess and respond to needs.

What we gave back to the community:

'Access to Care' once again emerged as a top health concern from the communities we serve. We responded by providing subsidy to programs and services to ensure access to care. Below is a sampling of the services we provide:

  • Emergency Medicine (Including paramedic services)
  • Primary & Specialty care services
  • Dental Resource Center
  • Diabetes services
  • Weight Institute of New Hampshire
  • Breast and Cervical Cancer screening program
  • Colorectal screening
  • Financial counseling
  • Insurance Enrollment assistance
  • Care Coordination services

Support of these services, combined with the $3 million in charity care we provide, totals over $20 million as contribution to access to care in the communities we serve.
