The danger in lead

Are our kids being adequately protected from lead? Researchers from the University of Bristol in Britain don’t think so. Of almost 500 children, those with blood lead levels much lower than the maximum safe level set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were still at risk for antisocial behavior and poor reading and writing skills. Parents can minimize exposure by testing older homes for lead; keeping children away from cribs, highchairs and painted toys made before 1978; and checking recalls for toys with lead-based paint at www.cpsc.gov.
